At 105 pounds, he is probably overweight. The standard for male GSDs tops out at about 90 pounds, so he is either overweight or oversize. If you have photos of him, one taken from the side, and one taken from the top standing over him, we can see if he actually is overweight or just big. When you pet him, can you feel his ribs?

Like I said, the bigger the dog, the more they lean. If he is overweight, the best possible thing for his hips would be getting some weight off. GSDs are best kept on the lean side, better for their joints and overall health.

@ freestep - he is actually very lean. He is just very large. I rescued him as a pup so I do not know his family history. You can feel his spine when you pet his back. He eats 6.5 cups of food a day and is extremely active. I’ll put up some pics…

Wouldn’t the leaning have been a constant tho? I’m concerned because it just started…

My 3 dogs are *extremely* active and heavily trained and worked... they each eat 4 cups per day.
