My puppy does this to..I thought she was looking for food or water?? She doesn't seem to ever sleep..only small "cat" naps and she is up and running again and again and again.......

Sounds like your boy needs some kind of busy toy to hold his interest, I think that he is probably bored. A raw knuckle bone to chew on or a kong with a treat in it or peanut butter inside the kong. He has all that pent up energy and has nothing to do with it so that is why he is pacing. Hope that you can find something to keep him busy or wear him out.
