How did you teach your GSD to sleep uncrated in the house without Dr. Distructo showing up to replace your nice little puppy? Rocky is crate trained since 8 wks old ,1yr old 75.5 lbs now and he would prefer to sleep on the back porch than in his crate ,even though he is alone out there. All 8 of our other dogs love to come inside and go to their crates on their own. Rocky comes in ,patrols the area and then wants back outside.

Every dog is different so sometimes you need to work with what you have.
If you want him indoors and he needs to be crated, then I'd crate him. You generally exercising and bonding with him? I'm not talking about him being in the yard all the time. I mean you (or other humans) actually interacting and training/socializing after a car ride to a new place.

i started crate training the day my pup came home.
little by little he was out of his crate more. when we were home he was normally ut of his crate. we did place him in his crate to get him use being crated when we're home. when he was allowed out of his crate at night he was in the bedroom with us with the door closed. i baby proofed the room (some what). i put our shoes in the closet and picked up all the clothing that was laying around. when it came to leaving him out of his crate during the day we did it for short periods throughout the day. sometimes he was left out of his crate when we weren't home for 5 to 10 minutes. i did this exercise many times throughout the day. as time went on we would go out and leave him out of his crate for longer periods of time. 5 to 10 minutes turned into 20 minutes, 20 minutes turned into a 1/2 hour, 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and so on.

I would look in to the bonding issue. My dogs tend to want to sleep where I sleep.. the bed is usually off limits so they just lay on dog beds in my room. I can't imagine them wanting to sleep somewhere else.
Although I only have 2 dogs, not 9.. that may be a factor somehow. |

He does come into the house but in his mind it seems to be "PLAYTIME" he jumps into the middle of the bed and generally just gets really hyper. Yes we do socialize and train and he generally behaves ,just not when he comes into the house in the evenings when everyone is wanting to settle down. For some reason he has this backwards in his mind....(((sigh))))
