she hasn't done it before cause she was younger, now she is hitting the teenage years...did your 20 something kids ever do something they weren't supposed to when they hit the teens??? Something dumb and potentially dangerous??? Welcome to the teen age years of a dog, she will settle more after 2.

"Also she is never out unsupervised. " If she's chasing cars, then the supervision is ineffective supervision. Flat out dog goes out only either on lead or within fenced yard to crap. Not just let out. Not even let out with supervision without lead or fence.
You can be out with her on lead and distract her with high value treats when a car comes by. This will take consistency and weeks if not months. Every time she sees a vehicle moving, she looks at you and gets a treat. Every time. Time after time. What you are doing is making paying no attention to the car/bus/truck more rewarding than chasing it. But I would still not let the dog loose outside of a fenced area. |

why would you let your dog out unsupervised? your dog charges
people and you let him out. Quote:

I am working with my dog on the chasing issue. He started it right after he was neutered last year at the age of two. First let me say that there is no quick fix to this situation. I work with him with treats when he sees the car coming and have him look at me instead of fixating on the oncoming car. We have made some progress but he is not at 100%. Now as far as your dogs safety that you are concerned about-I have the same concern for my dog that is why if he is outside he is either in the fenced in backyard or he is on leash with an adult holding it. I don't even let my 14 year old walk him-I don't want any accidents. I most definitely do not ever let him go in my large front yard which isn't fenced in because he could easily chase a car or run in front of a car pulling into my driveway. Safety first-don't allow your dog to ever be in a position where he can chase the car-and that is the most important factor.

when my dog was a pup i use to train on the front
lawn (lots of cars passing). i would go to a mall and train in the parking lot, train on a busy street, train in center city (lots of cars and people passing by). Quote:
