Dallas is over 4 years old and am hoping for some advice on the following:''
- Dallas is very attached to my wife. She bought Dallas from a breeder as a surprise for me while I was away. She had Dallas for 2 days and when she introduced him to me, he was already very attached to her. We had him professionally trained (german commands) and he's a great dog. He knows that I'm the "alpha" however, if I'm playing with him and my wife leaves the room, he'll follow her whereever. She's not as attached to Dallas as I am but he's very loyal to her. Sorry long story, when I take Dallas for a walk, he's very well behaved however, when my wife and I walk him (I hold the leash), he goes into these short quick exicted whines that won't stop. Almost like he's hyperventalating (sp). We've stopped walking him together as it's rather frustrating when people see you walking your dog and he's sounds like he's hurt...Any insight on this particular issue? Is he just that excited we are both walking him? He doesn't do it when my wife just walks him, just when it's both of us? - my second question is around barking. When someone enters the house, even my son, he has a very defensive bark (hackels are up), is there anyway to control that behavior? If we are all gathered around, he'll pace in circles (especially if my wife is present) and let out a few high pitched barks...any insight on what that is (i assume he's stressed with the company, however, we socialized him from the start. People and dogs he's fine with and once everyone sits down, he'll pace but no barking), I'm wondering if it's just him letting people know he's there? Thoughts? Thanks! |
