not sure to call it but i was out taking triad out standing in my yard i live on a corner road theres a neighbor behind me its about 200 or so feet to his driveway.
anyways there was this pickup truck with a big lawncare trailer behind it it pulled in front of the neighbors house Triad let out a small gruff before the driver got out. i warned him before he barked any further. anyone had this issue before where it seems they are looking out for the neighborhood? If it was how you described, one little 'ruff' and he stopped when he was told to... I wouldn't worry at all. Maybe just a bit of an alarm warning type thing.

Raina watches out for the neighbors next to us, across the canal, and across the street. It's usually just a bark questioning if they are allowed to be there but if she thinks there is a real threat her bark gets loud and insistent until I check it out.

I think our dogs get used to their enviroment. They get comfortable with their surroundings. When something changes, they react. It is the intensity of the reaction that helps us measure if it is a fear reaction, or perhaps a warning type of reaction. Sometimes, I think, it's just as if the dog is saying, "Hey! What's that?"
If it were my dog, I would want him/her to provide a "gruff" to let me know something is amiss, something has changed. You being able to take control of the reaction (Quiet!) quickly, shows a really great relationship between you and your pup!
