Default Boredom busters for injured dog

So the hot spots on Echo's foot make it really hard for him to walk. I tried booties and they work in terms of keeping him from chewing and licking off ointment, but I'm still wary of taking him for long walks/running around with him. Does anyone have any ideas for "games" we can play to keep him occupied/thinking? We've been going through our obedience stuff a lot, but I'm thinking more along the lines of low-impact play time.

How about a
Wobbler Wobbler
? I work at a shelter and this is what we use to keep minds busy. I ended up buying one for my boy at home. They are wonderful for mental exercise!

Otis also likes to play with his Boomer ball. He just kind of digs at it but this may not be good if your boy has hurt his paws.

Have you tried hide and seek games? Otis goes nuts and will use up tons of energy doing that 'scent work' around the house!

I hope your guy feels better soon!

You can take high valued treats and hide them through out the house. Tell him to find it. Make it easy at first and then see how good he is at finding them.

You can also take a high value treat and hide it under a pot. Let him try to remove the pot to get to the treat. You spice it up by using additional pots/bowls and only have a treat under one of them.

You can also play hide and seek in the house. If you haven't played it before, give him help by hiding and then giving a short whistle to give him a hint. Don't use a command such as 'come' or 'here', it could cause confusion. Then when he finds you give a treat and throw a big party! As he gets better at the game you hide in tougher places and don't provide any hints.

Hope he gets back to normal soon!
