I have been home with the pups 24/7 since I got laid off in October. Although both listen to me with no problems 99% of the time, when somebody comes to the door they decide that I don't matter and become total buttheads, running to the door, barking, and ignoring any and all commands. They are not aggressive in any way, as the angry/defensive barks stop the second I say "Enough! It's ......" and turn into the happy "It's a friend" barks, hackles go down and tails wag. This phenominum only happens at our house. If I am visiting either my or my husband's parents and I have them both with me, they listen with no problems. I have experienced that several times. Here, for some reason, at home, they shut their ears off. I thank the lord that my UPS man owns a GSD and loves the breed, as Freyja decided that she didn't need to be quiet or stay in the house as commanded and Angus talked our ears off. Even a pocketfull of treats didn't work. Most of my friends work all week, thus having people come over when my husband's not home is rather difficult. Any suggestions?

I wish I did. Rumi @ 15 months jumps on people who come into our home. For whatever reasons I cannot break her of this. She'll put on quite the defensive show as they approach the door, but once inside she's all over them. She's so excited & if she can get @ face level she licks them. I call her my lab in a GS suit. Not aloof at all.

they're not buttheads you're not training. teach them
how to greet. i called on family, friends, neighbors and the mail carriers to help teach my dog to greet. you can train anytime during the course of a day. Quote:
