Today was the night when our 7-month old just was too much. He is very well behaved in many ways - he sits, lies down, waits, etc. - but he also keeps on jumping up people and does not listen when we call him while he chases a stranger / child.
This behavior is very unacceptable. Today a child ran towards him on a field and he completely knocked her over - admittedly, in a playful way, but still.. dangerous. We do not want to get sued. What can we do to have him listen better when we call him while he is outside. He also can't jump up anymore on people! Other then that, he also pulls quite a lot when walked. The gentle leader helps a ton but I'd like him to walk slower out of his own motivation. Cathan is strong willed, and a very joyful dog.. it can be too much. I'd be very thankful for suggestions! |

A short leash and/or a hand on his collar will prevent jumping. You may want to consider a prong for walks, for the pulling issue. That will build the habit of walking slower/with you.

My post in this thread has links to how I teach loose leash walking: 5 month male, issues pulling when walking
It's a skill that can take time and patience to train. If your puppy jumps up on people and chases kids he should not be off leash around them, period. Keep him on leash and under your control while you train alternate behaviors such as an automatic sit to greet people.
