Kendra's newest thing is going crazy if the doorbell rings....whether it be on tv or the actual one for the house.
Just heard a doorbell on tv, and she starts to bark and chuff. We are working on after the initial bark to hush when we say quiet and enough, but it's definitely an effort. I'm pretty sure she's in the beginning of butthead stage....her "talking back" is giving you the "i know better than you" look when you tell her to lay down. That or if you have her go in her house if you are busy with something she pouts and whines and talks back. |

Cassidy used to do that. It took awhile, but she finally outgrew barking at doorbells (or any kind of sound that resembled the ringing of a doorbell) on TV, probably after watching us just sit there and ignore that sound over and over again rather than getting up and answering the door. I think she just figured out how to distinguish between the two - maybe something to do with what direction the sound came from.
She still always barked at the actual doorbell, right up until we opened the door, and then she stopped on her own. So, sorry - can't help you with that! It was a real PITA at Halloween because we usually get hundreds of kids. For several hours it would be DING! barkbarkbark DING! barkbarkbark DING! barkbarkbark....

I wish Joey would not go nuts when the doorbell rings.
It's strange that when my husband plays the doorbell sound on his iPhone, there's no reaction. It must have something to do with someone being at the front door, and his protection instinct kicks in. If anyone has any suggestions that he can tone it down a notch, it would be great. I'm at the point when I order stuff online, I have it delivered to my office and then bring it home so my husband doesn't have to deal with deliveries. |

There is a pizza commercial that plays here that sends Scarlett running and barking to the door every time she hears it. Other commercials play doorbell sounds and she does not react. It must sound exactly like ours to her. We actually let her make a lot of noise when the bell sounds. I WANT any salesman/saleswoman who cannot read my no solicitors sign to know what they are getting themselves into! We rarely have anyone ring the bell...I guess the TV one keeps her in practice.

I found that "quiet" and even a second of quiet gets praise & a treat. I go outside & ring my own doorbell. It is far enough away so that he does not go ape. Beyond that, I need a helper as we inch towards the front door & finally into the house.
Because I haven't kept it up, he is starting to bark at the doorbell again. At least he quit barking at that pizza commercial . Need to retrain this again.

Abby barks at TV and real doorbells. She is 2.5 and she has done this since about 6 months of age. We don't mind because we think of it as her job. She also barks when people approach the house, again her job. She will quiet down when we tell her to, but she gives us the look, "Wha ? Am I supposed to or not?"
