9years old and you would like he would have broken the habit by now.
my dog cannot get enough of chewing things that do not belong to him. In the 6 years I have known him we have: socks, underwear, pj bottoms, towels, spatulas, corn cob holders (just nawed on them) velco sister stuff animal dolls, etc. Surgery to remove: squeaky stuff animal toy/toothbrush and another time was to remove a small syrup container you would get from McD's. this list makes us sound like unfit dog owners, but he insist on finding ways to get a hold of these things even after getting them out of his reach. The newest one, which really dumbfounded our vet was a book. 5x8 a good 200 page hard cover bible. He ATE the whole thing!! thankfully saturday it was just an xray an a few laxatives to help him along (no surgery) but how would i have stopped that from happening? do I not have book shelves/movie shelves in my house now? it's not like we don't get him attention....isn't that what I keep reading is why they rip into MY stuff in the first place? can someone explain at all what is going through my boys head |

This is the dog who is also losing weight, right? What does his poop look like? What are you feeding him?
I wonder if he might have EPI.

Not sure. My dogs were destructive as puppies and then stopped other than my lab chewing one of my daughters Barbies irresistible feet if she forgets to put them away every now and then.
But when my lab was 9 months old, he didn't eat but he ripped a Bible to pieces-and I felt horrible about him tearing the BIBLE!

Same dog that is losing weight. the book incident just happened on thursday 9/29. Since i've got him back from the ex he's seem almost constipated, taking about 3 times before passing anything. And when he passes it varies in consistency. it can be solid all the way, solid start then loose. My ex wanted to go with kirkland food from costco (burgundy bag).

Read up on EPI and if he has any other symptoms (he's already got three!) then I would have him tested.
The bible could certainly be responsible for the constipation!

This is one of those cases where crate training would be beneficial, perhaps?

Thank you! I just started reading up on it and in tears right now because it really does fit him
except for one part on this article it says usually effects young shepherds. But I guess one can never tell until your tested.looks like another trip to the vet will be in order soon. |

does he have bones, rawhides, bully stick to chew on?? I have a plethera of different bones all over the house. He loves my shoes but if a bone is tastier then he will eat that instead. Some are heavy chewers and when bored they will find something - in this case the word - to chew and eat. But it sounds like something else might be going on also. Good luck.
