Default Leaving Free Roaming in House

So I've been wanting to get to the point where I can leave Alex out of her crate at home, while I'm gone. Not ALL the time, of course, but sometimes. Tonight? Trying it for the first time.....I feel like I'm re-puppy-proofing the whole house again (luckily my house isn't that big, and all the doors to the rooms will be closed). I'm going to visit my parents that live like, five minutes down the road, for a few hours for dinner and such. I hope Alex does well!

Wish me luck, all! I'm going to try and record it, too.

Oooh, video! I bet he'll just sleep the whole time you're gone.
I started leaving my pup out at 7 months, he never counter-surfed or got into anything that wasn't his so I assumed he would be ok.
This was with my two females also loose in the house. Only one time did I come home to a mess.
I had just watered my house-plants before I left and Karlo got into a big pot with annuals planted in the bottom & dug them out. The fresh dirt scent during the frozen winter must have been too much for him to not dig! That was the only time he was a naughty boy. I was happy to finally find out I had a normal puppy!

Good luck!

Kaiser still can't be left loose and he's almost 2. He can sometimes and for short periods if he's really tired but he'll eat anything he can get too. And has already destroyed my couch trying to get his ball out from under it.

Good luck with her! I hope she behaves!

Sinister has been sleeping out of his crate at night since he was about 9 or 10 months old.

He has had free roam of the house while I am gone since March when he turned 2 years old.

Im excited to try that for the first time, but scared as well! Im moving to an apartment with my two dogs (6 month old shepherd and 3 year old lab) and they've never been given free access of the house... they generally are watched by my roommates (I have 5! Always somebody home....) or get boarded if I'll be gone for more than a few hours. I am terrified that they'll eat the new apartment, but hopeful that they'll behave themselves! Wish I could record it in live time so I could rush home if I saw something getting destroyed, LOL!

Ugh, tell me about it! I'm just five minutes down the road and just left about twenty minutes ago, and I'm fully expecting something to be shredded or ruined when I get back.....but Alex usually just sleeps when I'm gone, anyway, so I'm hoping this will be the case once again. If there's not too much destruction on the video when I get home to see it, I shall post a bit of it!

She gave me a look right before I left - and it sorta worried me, haha!

WELL! I just got home, and have yet to review the tape.......but she was acting all sleepy (but still so happy to see me) when I opened the door, and what do I find?

NOTHING'S OUT OF PLACE OR RIPPED UP OR ANYTHING! SO PROUD OF MY GIRL!

I'll have to put the tape on fast forward to watch it and then maybe post it on FF on here I'm so giddy!

Good luck!! Glock has pretty much been sleeping out of his crate since he was 4 months old. Granted he usually sleeps in the bathroom, his choice, but there are nights he doesn't wind up in there until halfway through. Once I have my own place we will see about leaving him out more. He is fine for 30 minutes or so in my room, but beyond that... who knows!!!
