Dixie
is almost 8 months and everywhere we go people tell us how amazing she is and lucky we are. Just last night we were at the park and a GSD owner approached us and said they have a year old female. When we told them how old Dixie was, they asked us if she hat outgrown her "nipping" and "biting" stage. They were astound to her that since getting Dixie at 10 weeks, she had never once nipped or bit me, my husband, or anybody. She is a sweetheart and all she ever wants to do is play and be loved. ![]() With that said...to my question. On the 4th of July we brought her along for the festivities to a pool party. Knowing that she doesn't bark at anything besides the next door neighbors cats, we were shocked when she quickly was upset by something at the party. We realized that she FREAKED out when the kids would jump into the pool! She would just bark/howl/whine and then some. We tried to get her used to it and calm her down and for the most part she realized that it was okay, but she continued to be a nervous nelly until the kids jumping ceased. When adults jumped, she didn't react once! A couple weeks later we were at another BBQ with her and same thing. When my niece jumped in the pool for the first time, it sounded as though Dixie had been hurt, like she was in pain she was so loud. After a while she calmed down and left her alone. So we sort of chalked it up to her being protective of the kids, making sure they are okay. Well last night, my niece spent the night. We were in the bedroom and Dixie was laying on the floor playing with a toy and my niece decided to jump off the bed into my arms...same thing. She FREAKED! She gets vocal and it is almost as though she tries to take her from my arms! She doesn't bite or nip and her, just very close to her barking and yipping. Also, it is not the same bark as when she see's the cats (that she loves so much, ) it is a painful bark, like it hurts her when they jump.Any ideas? Does anybody else have any experience or seen this before? How can we let her know that the kids are okay? Any advice or stories would be greatly appreciated! She is normally a calm, confident little pup, but we have no idea why this just pushes her over the edge!
