Default It happened again...

This is my second post on the same topic.

I took Markus out at 11:30 last night for his final time before bed. I saw him do his business so I know that wasn't an issue. We climbed in bed and even allowed Markus on the bed with us for a few minutes of belly rubbing. This was the first time we allowed him on the bed. After that we allowed him to go his pillow that is next to his crate rather than into his crate. He laid down, moved around a couple times, stood up and peed on it! ?????

He lays on this pillow every day. This is where he hangs out when we are in the bedroom. It's the same pillow he peed on when we tried it in his crate a couple of weeks ago. So...why in the world would he be peeing on it? He is 100% house broken...except these two incidents on the same pillow? I am confused.

On a happier note..today is his final appointment for his heartworm treamtent!!! Yesterday we met the trainer we've decided to hire and were really impressed with the two hours he spent with us in our home evaluating Markus and us! It's really nice to meet folks who are really good at what they do.

God bless,
Rob

Is he neutered? How about a possibility of UTI?

My daughter's English Bulldog would pee on anything fabric in her crate. I know you said Markus was on the pillow beside the crate, but if he peed on it before, could there be residual smell?

Markus is neutered.
We do have a female lab in the house. The two of them get along quite nicely. The pillow in question is for Markus and the lab stays off of it.
He does not have an UTI.
It is possible that even after the washing of the cover last time he did this there is some minute trace smell. However, he uses this pillow an hour or two every day. That's why I am befuddled in trying to understand the behavior.

The pee would have soaked through to whatever padding is in there. I would spray it with an enzyme cleaner and let it air out outside.

Maybe he just doesn't like the bed?

I'd remove the pillow and see if he pees somewhere else during the evening. I wouldn't provide anything for him to lay on. That way you'll be able to tell if he is marking 'his' place to sleep, or if he is having a problem holding his bladder. I suspect he is marking. Once you've gone a few nights with out an accident then maybe put a towel in that spot and see what happens for a few nights.

In the mean time I would either toss the pillow and wash the case, or if it's an expensive dog pillow, I'd use the time to clean and descent it.

I agree with this and concur it sounds like he is marking it. The smell won't be an issue to him as it's his smell so most likely smells rather nice and comforting to him

Get a new pillow I am convinced the smell of urine is permanent. If he pees on a new one than consider it his claim to his spot and think about doing away with it
