Default Going nuts when the kids play..

Pepper is now about 13 months old and pretty well trained. She listens, her recall is getting better everyday. However, if the kids are out in the yard with their bikes or playing tennis or badminton ( their new choice of sport), she goes absolutely nuts. She chases the ball or the shuttle, chases the bikes and gets in everyone's way. I tried putting her in her crate inside while they were playing and she whined and barked and tried to pull the crate apart. She goes wild if we constrain her in any way while they are out there playing. I tried leashing her to a tree, but she just wound herself round and round while whining and barking. Any ideas on what's going on and how to deal with it? She's fine if they are just running around outside. But if they play with any kind of a ball or bike or other equipment, she goes totally nuts.

I'm not an expert, but...
What I read was she was off-leash (chasing bikes), in a crate, and tied to a tree. If you want to show her that her reactivity to these stimuli is inappropriate, you need to put her on a leash, get some high value treats, and teach her how you expect her to behave. I suspect this will require several sessions of 15 minutes or so (depending upon her attention span) and then removing her from that stimulus so she does not revert back to old habits.

Agreed.

I do the same thing with mine and the lawn mower. One of us keeps him on a leash and gives treats and the other mows the lawn. It takes time, but seems to work.

Our 22 month old flips out when the kids are running/playing or diving in the pool. I put my chair on the grass and interact with him with a ball or tug of war and he settles right in. If that's not possible we also use dogtra and he snaps out of it but the preference is to fulfill his desire to play. He's not as bad as last year maybe due to simple maturity.
