A lot of those dogs are conditioned, most are involved in sports like weight pulling. However APBTs are athletes, they are very muscular and it doesn't take much to whip them in shape like that. I was mainly showing those examples for size reasons. True APBTs are supposed to be small like that. Not many people breed true to size standards anymore so the majority of pit bulls you see these days are poorly bred and bigger/stockier.
This might help explain it better, something someone I know put together: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Interesting, thanks for posting it. The American Bully style is seriously unattractive (sorry if there are aficionados reading) - they look overblown, bodies too big for those stumpy legs. I didn't realize there were so many different types of APBT......

Thanks for posting this, it's very helpful for describing the differences. This is kind of like the English & American Cocker Spaniels who are as much the same as they are different. Very interesting and enlightening.

Not a PB pro by any means; however, I did do a lot of research on them before I finally decided on a GSD. I know many people with PB's and have dealt with them at my local shelter.
It is true, that a true PB should NOT be human aggressive. Of course, shelters can stress out ANY dog. I have had Jack Russels try to rip my head off through the cages. When you walk into the kennel where the dogs are kept ALL of them bark especially at a new face. I think the only dog that didn't bark at me the several times I have walked through the cages was a full grown GSD. At one point, PB's were known as "nanny dogs" that would watch over children...believe it or not. The litte rascals pet pooch was also a PB. PB's have a really bad reputation in the media right now and it isn't fair to the breed. If I'm not mistaken, before the PB became the media's go-to dog, it was the Doberman and before that the GSD. The GSD and especially the Doberman have had their reputations repaired for the most part. Unfortunately, it's the PB spotlight right now. Maybe the next media pooch will be Akitas... |
