Default Help! I'm 7mths pregnant and my GSD is acting out.

Help!!!!!

My husband and I adopted our male GSD when he was 6mths old from animal control. Long story short – He was owned be a military guy who got sent over seas and did not come back. His family did not want to keep him so the brought him to animal control. My husband and I had been looking for one and feel in love with him at first sight. Anywho, he will be 2 yrs old this coming Feb. and I am 7mths pregnant! He has ALWAYS been the BEST dog! His training was sooooo easy. He is smart and LOVES everyone. My husband and I have always been very active with him, but now with both of us working on top of me being in my 3rd trimester, we don’t have time to do anything with him during the week. Due to this, he is acting out! He has NEVER destroyed anything before, but recently he has been! He started just moving things around the house and now he is starting to destroy things! I don’t know what to do…….. I will be quitting work in 9 more weeks, but until then I don’t know what to do! Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it my pregnancy or the lack of activity????

Deff the lack of activity!
I dont think your dog would "know" you are pregnant & act out on purpose.
Plus hes still a young & full of energy!!
Good luck with everything.

Does he fetch? That is a great way to get out access energy with little movement from you. When I have very busy work week, and don't get home until 8:00 or 9:00 at night, I just go outside and throw the ball for about 10 - 15 minutes and it gives him enough of a workout that he isn't going crazy.

Lack of activity AND he does sense stress, so if either of you are stressed and if you aren't you are not normal. It is the holiday season so everyone is more stressed, add to that the pending new baby, concern about quitting your job, even if you can financially there would be some concerns. Stop stressing and find a dog walker or day care for a few weeks until you feel able to do it yourself. Once the baby is born long walks will be good for you, the dog and the baby. Congratulations on your new baby, everything will go well and if you tire out your dog he will reward you with love and protection and companionship for the rest of his life

No, they know. Mom doesn't move the same way, lays down more often, has the dropsies, dogs know. They can probably smell the hormonal changes.

I feel for you. Morgan turned 2 when I was 7 months with my oldest. Odd coincidence, she's also a shelter rescue I got when she was 6 months old!

She was always an easy pup but she went crazy in the last few months before my son was born. I couldn't physically walk her as far as we used to. I couldn't walk her with my older male. I couldn't bend over to pick up her ball. I couldn't play tag with her. She went nuts too.

Then once the baby was home, she became zen dog meditating over the new little family member.

I was 7 months pregnant and Mandalay was 9 weeks old when I brought her home. At 8 months I was put on bed rest. At this time and for a few weeks while I was recovering from my C-Section, I would sit in the living room wih a bowl of dry kibble. I would throw it down the hallway and Mandalay would chase it, one piece at a time. Sometimes she would eat most of her meal this way. LoL. I would throw each piece in a different direction and some I would throw far and some close. Some I would pretend to throw far so she'd go running and then I would just toss so she'd have to run back to get it. I still do this sometimes when I don't get her out as long as I'd like.

She gets her excercise and I got to stay on bed arrest.

A dog walker is a GREAT idea!!!! All of the kids will be out of school soon and Kane loves this 14yr old boy that lives down the stree. ( I live in the country and my neiborhood is only 2 streets.) I could pay him to come over and walk him or just play with him a little every day.

14 year old coming over to play every day sounds like the perfect solution. I'm betting the boy would like to make some money to go do stuff on school vacation.
