With my dogs, Tuki, a smaller dutch shepherd type, is the one being chased by Riku. It's hilarious, sometimes she will eye ball him from across the yard, then seemingly moving only her legs, walk straight up to him staring at him the whole time. He is very still, then flinches and she takes off and he goes after her. Sometimes he'll catch her and she'll be on her back and he is on top "biting" around her neck.

When they are playing inside, it is the same, she will be on her back and he's on top, working the neck. Anytime she tries to get on him while he's laying down when they play, he immediately gets up.

When she's barking at something out the window, and he goes to look, sometimes she'll turn to bark at him, which gives her the best spot at the window. That makes her seem more alpha in my eyes, but with the play, I thought alphas didn't like being on their back on the bottom?

I could be wrong, but if Tuki feels secure in her alpha position, then she may "allow" Riku to chew on her in play - Keeta has a "boyfriend" in our SchH club, a natural alpha, other dogs automatically defer to him and would not dare to challenge him - but he lets Keeta do just about anything, and he does not care.

She can put he paw on him, straddle him when he is lying down, chew on his neck, he just smiles and seems completely happy being with her. I think he is just so confident, and Keeta is not a challenge to his pack position, he has no problem letting her do these things, as it is only play, after all.

maybe its a female thing because my female seems to alway be the one chasing off and herding the others. My young male is the agitator he'll bug her into chasing him.........

Wolfgang loves to be chased. He'll instigate Sasha until she chases him.

Ours take turns doing the chasing and do seem to find it the most fun if is around an object, like a tree outside or the dining table inside.

Scout does this sort of stalking of Boss. Even in the house she will go around a corner and get crouched down in stalking mode and wait for him to come around the corner. Then it is game on! She has done this since a puppy and I have never seen it before with our males. Is stalking more of a female trait?
