Rocky, a 5 year old, black & tan, neutered male GSD,
would be perfect if it wasn't for the CCL rupture of the left knee. (cranial cruciate ligament, (ACL of the knee)) He is basic obedience trained and appears to be perfectly friendly. I've spent some time with him. He was calm, very people friendly and affiliative. Got around adequately on his own. Originally dumped by his very busy owners in the Staten Island shelter of NYC animal control, NOW LOCATED in the Brooklyn shelter of NYC animal control. Because of his medical condition, he can only be pulled from the shelter by a rescue. If you are an individual who would like to foster or give rocky a home, you have to contact one of the NYCACC New Hope Partners. The link to their list is on the following facebook page. ![]() ![]() ------------------------------------------ URGENT - Brooklyn - Staten Island | Facebook Brooklyn Center ROCKY A0949851 ***** RESCUE ONLY DUE TO ONLY MEDICAL ****** NEUTERED MALE, BROWN / BLACK, GERM SHEPHERD MIX, 6 yrs OWNER SUR - AVAILABLE, NO HOLD Reason PERS PROB Intake condition NONE Intake Date 10/25/2012, From NY 10306, DueOut Date 10/25/2012 Medical Behavior Evaluation GREEN Medical Summary SCAN NEGATIVE BRIGHT, ALERT, RESPONSIVE, HYDRATED PHYSICAL EXAM- Ear mite and flea negative Mild tartar on teeth Pigmentation of gum seen Slight clouding of the eye Neutered male Not bearing wieght on left hind limb No broken bones palpated Pain felt on examining leg Nosf Weight 95.0 PE: Grade III LH lameness, Positive left stilfe cranial drawer, H/L WNL, mild to moderate tartar, neutered, abd palp SNP, PLN WNL, Clear AU/OU A: Approx 5-6 yo MN GSD Left CCL rupture Plan: Rimadyl two 100 mg PO SID 10 days Dog Information Sheet 1: - Why are you surrendering this dog? Original Thread: Photos Linked to Main Threads #38 | Facebook Additional Thread: Photos Linked to Main Threads #38 | Facebook For more information on adopting please read the following: https://www.facebook.com/Urgentdeath...37541772984354 DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed. For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions. ------------------------------------------ ![]() ![]()

how stupid - kill the dog instead of giving him to someone who will give him a home....and with the weather there - I bet alot of dogs will be PTS because of the difficulty of caring for them..... so so so sad...............

is there no breed specific rescue out there that is wiling to put their name on this dog for an adopter that is waiting to give Ricky a home ? does he really need to die on a technicality ? there's even $400 in pledges to any rescue that would do this.
in all likelihood Rocky will be on tonight's TO BE DESTROYED list and will die tomorrow morning. SUPER URGENTS THAT NEED OUT NOW!!! | Facebook |

Rescues who would do that would need to have a relationship with that shelter (if they require some kind of screening) and then would be able to do the vet, reference and home checks on the potential adopter before putting their name on the dog.
i.e, "Do You Know Where That Dog Is Going"

Has someone contacted Shepherd's Hope German Shepherd Rescue. They are local to this shelter. They may be flooded though and not on line because of power outages. The shelter should really allow this poor dog to be adopted by people who want to help him.
