I got this in the mail today. He's not on death row, but it sounds like he is in danger from being in the custody of an unstable person. He looks like a sweetheart. Can anyone on Lon Island evaluate?

Oh how sad! He isn't going to stay well for long on that kind of diet. Poor poor boy - and I guess I have to feel sorry for this persons' kids too: sounds like a bad situation for all involved.

He's been posted all over the internet but no one has shown the slightest interest in this old man and he was really getting to me. I lost my senior GSD to osteosarcoma 3 years ago. I have 3 large mix breed rescues already, but they are friendly and quiet and I got to thinking that this old man might just fit in.
So he should be on his way to me soon. His name is going to be Logan and this will be his forever home. I'm going to send a post out to those folks who didn't jump at the chance to take this big sweet boy and say... your loss.....Logan and I will see you over in the Introductions forum.

He's a sweetheart. He's very gentle and well mannered. I was able to find that he belonged to an older woman who died and whose children dumped him in a shelter. He was taken by this trashy chick (multiple times in jail) and then she's dumping him because he's not a guard dog. She has small children and thinks she should have an aggressive dog. Some people should be spayed and neutered!
He went down to the park to meet my girls who weren't too sure about him. My senior hound did not appreciate a strange man following her home, but even she has to admit that his manners are too good to stay upset with him for long. Right now he's confused about why those nice ladies in the car left him here. He had a nice supper of Wellness lamb & rice with chunks of stewed chicken. He was pacing and fussing so he had a nice desert of a hunk of cream cheese with 50mg of Benedryl in it. He's sleeping peacefully at the moment. He's skinny and all leg, very underweight but not skeletal. I'll fatten him up. Lucky me, I got a honey! ![]()

Thanks for rescuing this guy. He sounds great and very deserving of a loving home.
He does not look underweight to me but it does look like he's missing muscle mass, especially in the hind end. A good quality food and a regular, gentle exercise program should help with that. If possible, I would start him with short walks three times a day and then gradually work him up to longer walks. Swimming would be great (if possible) and so would manually stretching his legs. I would also put him on joint support and Ester C.
