Default Garland, TX - Caesar, Male, 8 years old, "Out with the Old?" (no longer listed)

From: Penny Eims, German Shepherd Examiner

Garland, TX - As the year draws to a close, many people begin to purge..."out with the old, in with the new", is a common sentiment.
Unfortunately, one family in Texas decided to let go of their 8 yr-old German shepherd, citing "not enough time".
Not enough time after eight years...
Nobody truly knows the family's situation, but one has to wonder what changed so dramatically that the owners no longer had time for their senior companion.
And we can only cry for what this dog is likely feeling...
Confusion, loneliness - hope for a famliar face to come back and free him from the animal shelter...
A volunteer who met this dog shares:
He comes to the front of his kennel to get petted and licks your hand when you stick your fingers through the cage!!
She also has advised that he is "urgent".

Information on this beautiful senior is as follows:

8 yr old male German shepherd
Caeser's ID# is A158319.
Animal shelter address: 600 TOWER ST. GARLAND, TX. 75040; Email: rescue@garlandtx.gov

Thank you for taking a moment to share Caesar's information.

Poor guy - and Garland is NOT a good place for him to end up. Dogs with rescue commitment have been dispatched here, this shelter is not to be trusted.

Wow! I understand people may find themselves in a bad situation. Maybe there is a good reason they cannot keep their 8 year old dog. But seriously? Putting him in a gassing shelter is the best they can do?

And no - I don't REALLY think they had a good reason. Poor guy. I hope he makes it out.

It is my understanding that Garland no longer gasses -but I will check with a rescue person I know In Texas to be sure. (I could be thinking of another shelter.)

Last I heard, which was late 2011, Garland was still gassing after 3 days.

The person I know in TX thinks they have stopped, but neither of us is 100% sure. I do know that there was a big campaign to try and GET them to stop - and I remember receiving a forwarded e-mail from a group which was celebrating the fact that it HAD been stopped - but perhaps this was only wishful thinking........ If they are only waiting 3 days, Caesar could be a very fast goner....

Whataface! I don't even consider him a senior. My dog is 6 years older than him. He's in his prime.

This from December 2010.

Caesar is not listed on Garland's Petfinder site. I'm hoping that he either got out, or the list isn't up to date......

For some reason the link doesn't work - but basically it states that the campaign to get Garland to stop gassing was vigorous and had a lot of support (widely posted on Facebook.) If they have reinstated the policy I would think that those same people would be making a lot of noise.

What hasn't changed there is the fact that they are still notorious for euthanizing animals very quickly.....
