How true Rebel. It's also much easier to adopt a puppy. Sometimes rescues DO have to make tough choices that do not sit well with anyone. When they turn a dog down for whatever reason...those people still grieve for that dog.

What Rebel said is very true. Right now I am in the position that I cannot foster any male dogs. My ten year old foster Bob lives to kill other male dogs. He is fine with any female, but when a male comes in the house he goes insane. To the point of destroying crates and tearing apart wooden doors. It is scary.
And now, since I am also fostering a nine year old female that at first was horribly dog agressive, I have to be very careful about what females I bring in. Thank goodness my new girl Beauty (who is getting adopted today) is very submissive to other dogs and runs when someone wants to start something with her. It took almost a week for Sable (the old girl) to accept Beauty and not try to attack her at any given moment. Sable is great with other dogs once she knows them, but until she does, it is pretty dicey around here. So I can only foster submissive females at the moment. This is tough for me because I have always like fostering the young knuckleheaded males tha are dumped for being naughty and obnoxious. Strange - but I like a challenge! Bob has been here for two years as of Christmas Eve and since he is completely blind now, undoubtedly he will spend the rest of his life here. With my luck, he will live to be 15.

Also, people who are out to judge them are hardly ever there to foster a difficult dog, or any dog for that matter. Same as the judges have families and their own dogs, so do rescue volunteers. Nobody has bite and disease resistand dogs or kids.
