Default Springfield, GA - Bicardi, 9 yo n male.a sad one (shelter adopt)

From the Effingham Shelter Volunteer (11/30/11):

I was at the shelter on Thursday, one week before Thanksgiving, and a man came in and demanded they take his 9 yr. old German Shepard or he would take him back home and shoot him in the head. They took him and I watched that horrible man hand Barcardi over and just turn and walk out the door. This poor dog stood at the door and put his paw up. It was heart wrenching. I do see a lot of sad things happen up there but this got to me more than most. As soon as the owner left I told the ladies to please get as much information on this boy because I knew I would lose sleep over this and not be able to get that scene out of my mind.

There is a lady who comes to the shelter on Fridays and does assessments. She assessed Barcardi yesterday. She wrote me this morning and she has told me he is a sweetheart. He has some leash manners but he does not know any commands. He has no tail. His owner said it was injured when he was a pup and had to be removed. The reason he gave for getting rid of him was that he started using the bathroom in the house. So instead of taking him to the vet to see if it was due to any health issuses the idiot took him to a kill shelter. He is neutered. Dena said Bacardi loves all touch. He does not mind his feet, tail, ears touched. When he calms down he lays right by your feet but when you get up he is ready to go. She also mentioned that it appeared he kept looking for his owner to return. He has no aggression towards food. You can pet him while he eats and take his bowl away. He also will give soft kisses. She does believe Barcardi was hit a lot. He does not seem to mind cats and does not mind the other dogs either.

This boy deserves a proper home to finish out his years. He is between 9 and 10 years young. He is a good boy. I just want to right the wrong this human did to him. If we can even call the that man a human. Sonya will not put him down so there is no fear of that. This whole scene got to all of us. Please let us know if you might be able to help him. This shelter does not charge rescue any fee. If you would need more informationon him you are more than welcome to contact me or call the shelter at 912-754-2109. If you don't have room for this boy would you please reshare my email with whomever you think might help him. He needs to get out . This shelter is in Springfield Ga. It is right outside the Savannah area.

Sincerely,
Pat Manser
(Effingham Shelter Volunteer)

I don't have words for the type of person who would do this to a dog, especially a senior. (Well OK I do, but they would be here.) I wish him a lousy Christmas.......

Bump for Bacardi, whose world has fallen apart (though who knows, perhaps he is being treated better in the shelter than in his former home )

This brought tears to my ears. This poor guy. I hope he finds the most fantastic home to live out his senior years. He needs to know what being loved feels like.

What a sad story!

I hope his "humans" run into some bad luck!

Bicardi deserves a wonderful home for the holidays, my fingers are crossed that someone will love him, spoil him and make him feel special for the rest of his life.

This one brought tears to my eyes. Of all the faults of human kind, we should know better - then to reward loyalty this way.

I wish I wish I were closer, because I would foster this guy in a heartbeat. The seniors are my favorites, and one they have been placed in a new home they tend to really stick.

Stuff like this makes me so angry.

If I lived where I could drive to get him, I would take him in a heartbeat. I hope he finds a home.

Bump for this dear, sweet dog to find the retirement home that he deserves. If I were still living in WI I would drive up and get him.

Bump. Poor baby. I hate these posts. I sure hope someone can rescue this guy. Sounds like he is in a much better place than where he was though. Bacardi, what a cute name.
