Default Beckley WV-5yo male, owner seizure, imbedded collar-exp.owner or rescue(shelter adopt)

Buddy was seized from his owner and brought to the local vet's office by the county sheriff with an imbedded chain in his neck which was removed. The sheriff's dept initially told the vet's they had someone to provide a home for Buddy but they never came back for him. The vet's office had to surrender him to the shelter. I had talked to an employee at the vet's office who had been around Buddy while he was staying there and she said he has dog aggression issues.I haven't talked directly with anyone from the shelter since he's been there.but they too are saying pretty much the same.

Buddy has endured neglect and abuse so it's not at all surprising he has some issues. Being dog aggressive shouldn't cause him to lose his life after what he's been thru... this is a gassing shelter and with no prospects of Buddy getting into a suitable home he will soon be pts.

Buddy is a registered intact male who is 5 yrs old and quite a handsome looking boy from his picture.... I hope to find time to stop at the shelter tomorrow to get some first hand information and personally assess him and get more pictures.. Can anyone help him and see that he gets a loving caring home off of a chain and have a second chance at a good life? He does need rescue placement or placed with an experienced gsd owner.

Buddy is in a high kill gassing shelter in Beckley WV. Has dog aggression issues and has to go to rescue ONLY! Needs someone familiar with the breed and willing to work with him! Was left at the vet for over a month, initially seen with an embedded collar. Vet turned him over to the shelter. Time is running out! If your rescue can help this guy, please contact me ASAP!!!

Thanks!

I looked at their Facebook and he is in the adopted folder. Can you evaluate Rex, the black boy?

Just called and checked with the shelter and Buddy IS STILL THERE! He was initially adopted by a husband and wife this week and did well with them. However, when they had him at home and were trying to do 'something'??with him he reached out and grabbed the womans arm and it scared her so they took him back to the shelter. He didn't growl and snap at her in an aggressive 'attack', but did grab her by the arm. The shelter said he's been a pleasant dog other than 'acting goofy' when he sees other dogs while there for the past few weeks. I'm going by this morning to see him. I'll ask the volunteers who maintain their web site to take him out of the 'adopted' folder.

He needs a 'rescue only' or 'experienced gsd owner/trainer' to teach him the ropes on what is expected of him and understand his temperment.

Yes, I'll check on the blk GSD "REX" while I'm there. He too was adopted and returned after the adopters lost the place they were renting and couldn't keep him.

Perhaps they touched him in an area that is still tender - like his neck, it looks red in the photo - owners need experience in dealing with a dog that's been chained, and probably isn't socialized. Anyway, no sense in speculating since Buddy is back in the shelter and in need of help......thanks for going to see him and the other guy Pat......

Gorgeous boy. His neck is pretty well healed but it's still a bit sensitive and he will flinch when you put your hand on it. I put a harness on him and suggested to the shelter they use one on him instead of the collar to limit any discomfort that might cause him to act adversely.

Yes, definately dog aggressive. Walked him buy the runs and any dogs acting aggressive or assertive caused him to start cage fighting with them thru the wire. THe non assertive and younger dogs didn't get a reaction out of him.

There is also a newer woman employee who wears a ball cap and he takes offense to her appearance and probably her way of moving and he has tried to go after her before. The shelter said he definately likes men better. However, Buddy and I got along fine as did he and the young lady who helped me with and held him for pictures.
He was by no means aggressive or threatening to me and I felt comfortable with him but I didn't get overly pushy interacting with him. He needs someone to bond with and a leader.

No doubt he's spent most his time tied outside with very little interaction with his owner. Possibly used to breed. He's very distracted outside especially and has little interaction with you, but he will respond to treats and pay attention. Good ball drive but he doens't realize it's something he can play with.

Buddy would do well with someone experienced and willing to help him thru his quirks and dog aggressiveness. He definately needs a 'leader' and not a follower... SOmeone to give him a job to do and something constuctive in his life to get praised for. He could be turned around at this point with some guidance. I really enjoyed visiting with him and all his issues are something that some of my own dogs have been thru and gotten over.

He is a pretty boy. Are you fostering/ rehabilitating him until you can find him a home? I just love the top pic!!
