![]() An email I sent out to IL GSD Rescues....please feel free to crosspost! Hi this is Kelly Bailey at Livingston County Animal Control in Fairbury, IL. I've been working on an ongoing abuse case and finally got the owner to relinquish last night. Emma is 5 year old female German Shepherd. She weighed 79 lbs in July 2010, which is the last time she was at the vet. Background on this girl, was beaten on a nightly basis according to neighbors in the apartment complex. They could hear her whimpering and crying and the man yelling at her. The man admitted he would "whoop her ass", but denied hurting her. When I examined her (by petting), I noted that when I would touch her hind quarters even slightly, her skin would ripple and flinch, as if she were either in pain, or she was waiting to be struck. When I picked Emma up, she barked at the door, but as soon as I put the leash on her, she couldn't wait to leave. She jumped right into the back of my truck and struggled to get into the crate. As you know, this isn't typical GSD/owner behavior. With my GSD's and even rescue GSD's, the bond is so strong it makes separation difficult. Emma was happy to leave. She has been in the kennel one day, and is a little hesitant, but still seems confident with her surroundings and will let you touch her and pet her. We would really like Emma to go to a rescue with a foster home to see if she has any lasting issues from the abuse. Please call me at (815) 692-6920 if you can help or you have any questions. I will forward better pictures as soon as I can. She's a pretty sable girl. My email is irish_gsd@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Better pics of Ms. Emma. She is doing fine in the kennel, running around by leaps and bounds! Doing the usual GSD inspection of every nook and cranny

Gorgeous girl - and looks like she knows she is out of harms way. I'd like to "whoop the ass" of the former owner - really hard.

Simply Shepherds Rescue may be able to take this gal... but not until the end of December... no foster homes at this time and one young pup going in for hip surgery. If shelter can hold that long or if we can get someone to foster her... she can come up to the Chgo area sooner

Update on Emma,...not such great news. Brought her to the office yesterday for a hw test. Had her hang out with us a bit before, and she was taking treats, sitting, giving paw, licking my face etc. After about 1/2 hour, me and two other employees tried to test her. I knelt down in front of her to find a vein and the other employees were on either side of her. I think she felt cornered (her owner would beat her and barricade her in the corner with a chair), and she let out a little low growl. I was stunned and before I could stand up, she snapped at my face. She didn't make contact but left a little doggy spit on my nose...she came that close. I got really lucky. After that she was back to normal. This poor baby has some issues guys. She really really needs a GSD rescue and foster home without kids. I'm thinking that's her only hope, I can't transfer her to humane society or adopt her out knowing what I do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
