I knelt down in front of her to find a vein and the other employees were on either side of her. I think she felt cornered (her owner would beat her and barricade her in the corner with a chair), and she let out a little low growl. I was stunned and before I could stand up, she snapped at my face. She didn't make contact but left a little doggy spit on my nose...she came that close. I got really lucky. After that she was back to normal. This poor baby has some issues guys. She really really needs a GSD rescue and foster home without kids. I'm thinking that's her only hope, I can't transfer her to humane society or adopt her out knowing what I do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A lot of dogs object to being "cornered", whether they have been abused or not - but this girl obviously has some bad memories over and above the usual. She may need to be muzzled for procedures for the time being, just to make sure no-one gets hurt. Our Conor hates being examined and has to wear a muzzle for just about anything when it comes to medical - we adopted him at 6 months, and have no idea how he was treated by his former owner. While he never showed any signs of having been abused (he just had no training) who knows: to this day (he is now 4) and even with a lot of work, he doesn't take kindly to the sort of handling he gets at the vet.......so on goes the muzzle. Emma will need a patient and understanding owner that's for sure, so I second the idea of rescue. She would be a wonderful girl for a savvy owner.

Default At the bridge, Emma, Fairbury, IL

Thank you all for trying to help Emma. It turns out her issues were far more serious than first thought. She again, went after another employee at a second attempt at a hw test. As you all know, the longer a GSD is kenneled, the worse it becomes. She was starved her entire life for love and affection and only knew how to protect herself. She had enough loyalty for her owner not to turn on him, but here, she was lost. It just goes to show that pure bred, or mixed, rescues and humane societies can't keep up with the constant demand, but I know they try so hard. I'm not sure if she could have been saved, but I know the longer she stayed here, the harder it would have been. I'm just thankful that I got her out of her **** hole and she's at peace now. I have to look at it that way, or I'll question every rescue I attempt. But I still cry everytime...and I guess that's a good sign. Thanks again.

This is heartbreaking - and I'm crying too. I do think she could have been saved, there are people who can work with these damaged dogs - but barring a miracle it would have taken too long to find that special someone. Thank you for caring gsdgirl36 - and for sharing her story with us. We would all have hoped for a happy ending, but she is free from the demons that (thanks to that lowlife owner) haunted her.

Run free Emma - see you at the Bridge sweetie........
