Last month I would have been posting this in the URGENT section, but now that LCAC has a new ACO, the death dates for these animals has been dropped, at least until they run out of space.
This is Dozer, an owner surrender. ![]() Tag2011-1 Dozer, intact male DOB: 9/26/07 Listed as a black and tan. Livingston County MI - Animal Control - Animal Viewer I just called the shelter and found out that he has skin issues, and he will chase and bite at his tail until it bleeds. He is utd on all vaccines and is housetrained. They were told that he is dog aggressive and will need a home without other dogs. That's all the information they were given when he was dropped off. "diplays dog aggression, does have a skin condition. Would need to be in a home with no other dogs "
I am going to try and get over there tomorrow and see him. Will post back with information when I do.

Just came back from visiting with Dozer.
His history: He started out in a home on 100 acres and was able to roam all over. Then, owners moved to an apartment where he was confined most of the time with little attention. He developed the habit of chasing his tail and when he caught it, he would chew on it until it bled. It was so bad when he got there that it was amputated and he's probably lost half of it. While in surgery he was neutered. He's a lovely, dark sable. He allowed me to touch him all over. Picked up his feet, looked at his teeth, checked ears, etc. No problems. He does have some very dry, scabby skin on his rear end by his tail. They think it is because of fleas but not sure. He could also use a few pounds because he is skinny. The opinion of the staff there is that he wasn't taken care of properly. They do have all his paperwork and these people paid a lot of money for him from a breeder. He knows sit, down, and shake hands. He is VERY food motivated and has great attention when watching and waiting for a treat, which he took very nicely. I think he would be very easy to train. Now with the new ACO there, I was allowed to take him outside to walk. He didn't pull on the lead (although he was wearing a prong collar that was way too big for him) but was all over the place - in front and then side to side. But, was probably just excited to be out of his kennel. According to them, he is dog aggressive. I didn't see it first hand as they brought him out to me and there were no other dogs around. They also said that he wasn't bothered by the cats, but before I returned him to his kennel, he showed a lot of interest in a cat that somebody had brought out to look at, so I'm not sure how he would be with one. But, he is a lovely, friendly young dog that was giving kisses to the employees there. They would like to see him go to a home with somebody that has shepherd experience and will be safe as long as they don't fill up.

That poor guy - from 100 acres, to an apartment, to a kill shelter. No wonder his ears are at half mast...here's hoping for Dozer's luck to change..
