I agree Debbie - it IS all about teamwork! GSRA is thrilled to be a part of Sheba's rescue. Thank you VGSR for putting everything in place and working so hard to ensure these 2 made it out!
Sheba's pup is going to VGSR I believe, so everyone in the family is safe ![]() Andrea GSRA |

A huge teamwork effort for Sheba. She would not have made it without it.
Thank you Debbie, Cindy, Andrea, Veronica and all the other VGSR and GSRA folks who made her second chance at a good life possible. You went above and beyond for this dog. |

Little Sheba, now known as Luka is safe. She was pulled yesterday morning, and a nice volunteer helped transport her. Luka has such an amazing spirit considering all she has been through. She is still pretty thin, but eating well. She does have a bullet lodged in her rear leg, and is very reluctant to put any weight on it. (Shelter had it x-rayed...appears to have been in there for a while). Luka also has very worn down teeth, no doubt from chewing on a chain. Gives her a unique smile. She is such a gentle and loving girl, and starts wagging her tail as soon as she is spoken to. Going to try some doggie intros later with a few of my calmer dogs. I'll post some pictures later. She is so thankful to have been given another chance. Many thanks to all who advocated so hard for her, she is one lucky girl.

Luka Update:
Luka is still doing well. She is such a sweet girl, and so willing to love despite all the abuse she endured in her past. She was spayed several weeks ago and did fine, and also tested HW negative!!!! The leg however, is another story. We had a couple of vets look at it, and also did more x-rays. There was extreme damage to the leg. It appears that her femur was shattered when she was shot, and healed in a big lumpy mess. Also, the x-rays revealed that the bullet fragments were embedded in the joint and surrounding cartiledge, and was clearly causing a lot of pain. The joint was pretty much frozen in position. The vet also indicated that her risk of developing bone cancer was increased due to all the bullet debris floating around. After some discussion, it was decided that the best course of treatment for Luka was to remove the leg. Luka had surgery on Thursday, and is doing fine. The vet actually removed the entire leg from the hip socket, just as a precaution. Luka is getting around just fine (she pretty much was walking on three legs anyhow, so it did not take any big adjustment on her part). She is wagging her tail, and has a great appetite. It seems that the e-collar is annoying her more than anything else. She has such a wonderful spirit, and is so thankful and appreciative of every little bit of attention. I can't wait for her to heal to see how she does without the chronic pain the damaged leg was causing her. A big thanks to GSRA for all the effort they are putting into this sweet girl!
