Sorry for the delay in posting, but yes, Charlie is home!

I picked him up yesterday and then he went to my vet for a check up and senior blood work, etc.
My vet was very impressed that he was very calm considering all he's been through - loosing his home, ending up in animal control for almost a month, then I take him to a new vet, all unfamiliar to him, and being neutered too!

His heart and lungs sound really good. He shows signs of weakness in his hips due to his age. He is underweight at almost 67lbs and my vet would like him to be around 75lbs so when I take him back in three weeks we'll check his weight again. My vet will be out of the office tomorrow (when the results of the bloodwork will be in) so I probably won't find out any results until Monday. If there is anything wrong he'll have a colleague call me before then. He just shows the normal signs for a senior dog.

Around the house here he seems to be settling in ok. Yesterday he just paced and seemed lost and confused. Today he is a lot better and I'm sure it will take him some time to adjust to his new family.

While at animal control I saw that his poop was normal but now it's runny and we think it's probably stress related but I'm going to keep an eye on that and contact the vet if it doesn't clear up. He didn't eat much yesterday but today he has his appetite back.

Here are some photos that I took today.

He's a really sweet dog and I'm glad I was able to help him. I think he will fit in nicely here after he's had the time to adjust.

Wow, what a story! He's a great looking dog, looks like you spent a lot of time brushing him. Looks as though he's been in your family for a long time. So happy for all of you!!

Thank you.
It's a wonderful feeling knowing that you've saved a dog from possibly being put to sleep. I hope to be able to do it again someday.

there is nothing like that feeling of saving a life, i hope to be able to do it again someday too. it was so hard for me to know the shelter this boy was at was so close to me and i simply could not take on another responsibility right now. when i saw you were going to take him i was so incredibly relieved.

btw, i have the same rug you have!!!

Here are some photos of "Charlie" from this morning. I say it like that as Charlie doesn't respond to "Charlie" so I'm thinking that either that's the wrong name or that he might be slightly hard of hearing. I know he can hear some things but just no sure of how much. I've walked in from outside and I've startled him more than once. Same thing in the house too.

I've also found out that Charlie doesn't like vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, lawn mowers, etc. He barks at them and tries to grab the wheels. The lawn mower is the old fashioned type of push (non-electric/gas) that was just sitting outside when he first went for it. And the sad thing is when I reached over to grab his collar to get him away from it he cowered and yelped so I'm thinking that at some point somebody may have hit him for doing this.

There is also a bit of tension with Koda. Koda (2 yrs, n/m) is insecure with some dogs and does not feel comfortable with Charlie around. I didn't notice it much until yesterday but it's quite obvious now. So that is something else I am going to work on. I've already talked with my trainer for some help and suggestions.

Yesterday I talked to my vet and all the bloodwork for Charlie came back good. No problems there. His incision area looks good and the stitches are due out on Monday.

So, that's the latest on Charlie

ps, katieliz, I bought that rug for one reason and that was so that Ellie could walk across the kitchen floor without thinking she was going to slip and fall! One day she woke up and decided she just couldn't walk on that type of floor! She would stand in the entrance way and build up all her courage to quickly try and dart across to her bed and her legs would go all over. If I walked in with her with a food distraction, she forgot all about the floor and walked just fine, but the rug just makes it easier for her!

I'm looking for a rug! Where did you guys get yours?

Charlie looks sensational - thanks again for taking him in. I'm sure the situation with your other fellow will resolve itself in time - they'll work it out....... it DOES feel good to save a life - our Conor was rescued from a shelter one day before he was due to be euthanized (at 6 months, just a baby...) We weren't the rescuer, we were the adopter - but it was still very satisfying to give him another chance at a forever home....
