How long??

I am very worried about bloat with my GSD puppy and don't want her to get it. How long should I wait to play ball with her? I've read online about an hour. Is this correct? Thanks!

I use the rule, no play hour before and after eating. When we're out exercising, normally the last 1/4 mile I force us to a slow walk, so they have time to cool down before gettiing a drink as well.

On average I wait to play/exercise an hour before or after feeding, if the exercise is going to more demanding I'll wait longer.

I am the same hour on either side camp. But also, I have the rule, if they are panting they don't eat. I will allow water during excersise, but I don't allow them to engorge in it. I usually count 5 seconds then call them off.

I'll Fourth that. An hour before and an hour after is a general rule of thumb.

Thanks everyone! I've been waiting usually about an hour and 30min the last couple of days.

I do the same usually. It's strange, Cruz is my fifth GSD I've had in my life and until I came here and seen what bloat does, it never crossed my mind nor have I ever had a GSD of mine get it. Not to say it could never have happened. Maybe things just worked out that way. Cruz is also the first GSD I've ever had a feeding schedule for. All my other GSD's had free feeding. They ate when they wanted.

Really, I think the approach I'm going with now that I've been exposed to information here has helped and made me aware of things to avoid and things I should pay attention to that I never used to.

Sahara is my fourth shepherd and I have never experienced it before either. But Sahara is a little different she is my husband and I'd first dog together and the other three were dogs I grew up with from my parents. I'm always worried about her, it's kind of ridiculous on how much because I will literally make my self sick reading about things and worried about her.
