Default When to switch to adult food?

So a friend has a 6.5 mo male GSD puppy. And she is thinking of when to switch from puppy food to adult food. She currently is feeding the large puppy dry food from one of the quality brands.

Her vet is saying she should switch now, while the breeder (very very well known US show kennel) is telling her to stay with the puppy food for a while longer.

Anybody have any good knowledge/experience with this issue?

My opinion and what I do is, I don't feed puppy food at all. The majority of breeders I've gotten my puppies from also do not
