Default How many lbs. of food (roughly) would a 3.5 m/o go through in a month?

I know it depends on the brand of food, but I'm wondering if anyone could tell me roughly how much food she would go through in a month. I'm going to switch her to Merrick Whole Earth Farms puppy formula and am not sure how many lbs. to buy, and don't really want to buy more than necessary because money is super tight this month. Thanks in advance for any input you can give me!

That would greatly depend on the activity level and individual metabolism of your pup.

Buying the largest bag is generally the most cost effective. Price per ounce is usually lower in the larger bags.

Well she's pretty active... I wouldn't say extremely active, but definitely active. And yeah, I know buying the largest bag is usually the most cost effective, but I'm on a low, fixed income (I'm disabled) so I'd prefer to buy what she needs monthly rather than extra. Thank you for your input though

It depends on the brand, the calories, the size of the pup, the growth rate, the energy level.

I guess what I would do is figure out the calories, usually kcal/cup or kcal/kg of the old food, and how much the new food has, and then figure in a 10 percent increase give or take, to accommodate growth. And go from there.

Personally, I would go with the bigger size if it is a considerable savings. Or, you can buy the smaller bag and see how it goes for the first week, and then if it looks like it is necessary, get some chicken leg quarters and give him a raw quarter instead of a meal 3 or 4 times a week, given you are feeding 2-3 meals per day.

Raw chicken is more expensive than cheap dog food but less expensive than upper end dog food. Puppies can be weaned right onto raw. And raw chicken has all of its nutrients as it has not been baked out of it. Chicken and bone can be injested by pups if it is raw.

I agree with Selzer. When I am changing foods I go by kcal/cup as an estimate of how much to feed. That's what has worked best from my experience.
