Callie had a check up this past weekend and @ 5 months and 2 weeks, weighed 57 lbs. While we were there, we asked about her biting and itching around her legs. The vet suggested going grain free with her food because it sounded like an allergy. So for just being here a short time, I've seen you guys talking about this and now we're members of the allergy club lol. Vet suggested Blue Buffalo large breed puppy, the feed store I went to suggested Naturally Wild made with sweet potatoes and venison. What are your suggestions and when should we make the switch to adult food?

Out of those two options, I would choose Blue because I wouldn't feed a Eukanuba food.
I've always fed grain free and have rotated between mostly Nature's Variety, Orijen, and Acana. But I'm not sure which grain free foods are good for puppies.

Is your vet certain it's grains that are the problem? Often times where allergies are concerned, it's recommended to try a novel protein source.

Trial by error when it comes to allergies and food. If one doesn't work, try something else. For the adult food and when to switch over, I say now. Puppy formulas are gimmicks.
Is the itching the only issue? How do her ears look? Keep in mind that food allergies might not even be causing her to itch. It might be something as simple as the dust in your house.

Regular Blue Buffalo LBP isn't grain free.
I don't feed puppy food at all. I feed an "All life stages" or adult food WITH grains to puppies. Then once they reach 12 months of age, I feel comfortable feeding them a grain free kibble. (Since most grain free kibbles aren't recommended for puppies.)

I feed Natural Balance duck and potato, it is grain free and has limited ingedients. Tessa required grain free due to digestive issues and I have found that Dharma loves the duck and potato so I will continue with it even though Tessa is now gone.

Her ears are great as you can see in my avatar...they've been up since we got her in August. Her coat is great and glossy. She just tends to chew on her legs...not much itching anywhere else. The feed store I went to did suggest an all life stage food, I just haven't had enough experience with it to know what was the right thing to do.
