My almost 12 week old german shepherd pup has been on the same food since he was 7 weeks old. Blue Buffalo large breed puppy food.
The majority of the time he has soft/solid formed poops but sometimes he will have a pile of slurpee like poop towards the end of them(sorry only way I can describe it). And sometimes the entire poop will be like that. There is no blood/odd colors. He never gets into anything he shouldn't because my house is very puppy proofed. He has gotten fecal tests done and de wormed so I know he is not sick. He is still gaining weight and growing quickly, he has tons of energy as well and his coat is still shiny. I am wondering if it could be the food? Maybe he is sensitive to it? I've read that blue buffalo can be too strong for some pups. I just don't get why it's not "slurpee" poop consistently. Why would it sometimes be normal? Has anyone else had this problem!? I am going try pumpkin in his food and see if that will harden them up. But once this bag is almost done I am thinking about trying something new...any suggestions? I am thinking about going to a natural pet market. Thanks! |

Welcome to the world of gsd poop! So many questions about food and the end result- all you can do is find what works best. Having said that, your pup is still just a baby and has had so many other things introduced into that little body- treats, chew things, etc. Even after reading all the threads about feeding pups, you'll just have to go by trial and error while maintaining his health. Seems as though it takes many of us about a year to find the best fit.

My pup just started doing this! It was really bad tonight, however.. I worked out that it was because he had dinner and then 20minutes later, he played with his dog friends and they were messing around A LOT! I think he just got a wee bit excited... Maybe that could be happening too.. could even be stress?
I heard that sometimes it can be over eating diarrhea but I can't be 100% on that. I was told to put a little rice and/or chicken in with the kibble as well Just a few ideas and thoughts just thrown out there ![]() Good ol' smelly gsd poop!
