Default Food allergy drama

When we first got Ziva she was on Purina large breed puppy and she had no problems with that. Wanting to give her the best we could we started to feed her Blue Buffalo large breed puppy and she did okay with that. This past month we switched her to the adult version of the same flavor of BB and now she poor ears are all itchy and sore. Seeing as she had a reaction last month to getting into my roses I assumed she had gotten into them again. I've since trimmed them back and despite medication she's still itching. So back to Purina she goes and let's hope her ears clear up. Our last GSD had a chicken allergy so Ziva will be on a non-chicken diet to test my theory.

Though all of us try to get the best food we can afford....

Truth is all our dogs are different, and you may have to go back on the Purina for a bit to work out the issues and then maybe experiment again with another brand.

My plan is to put her back on Purina, a non chicken version, at least until her reaction goes away..then at least I have a starting point. Right now getting her to eat better and no be so itchy is my only goal.

I had to cut Shasta back from Blue Buffalo to Nutro. Now technically, Blue Buffalo is a "better" food, but it just didn't work for us. You have to feed the food your dog can tolerate.

update: So last night I changed Ziva to pro plan lamb and rice. I know you're supposed to wean them to a new food but she had an allergy to something in BB and with just a little left of it, I just gave her straight Pro plan. I figured the runs for a day or so was worth her not having an allergy in her system anymore. I'm impressed! She loves the food! With BB she just pushed it around and basically only ate because she was hungry..she ate this new stuff right away, no picking through it at all. She hunted down the empty bag later and drug it through the kitchen hunting for more...she never did that with BB. So this morning I took her out and no runs..even better! Fed her half her daily amount this morning and she ran into her crate and waited for it..that is totally new! So not only is she in love with the food..I'm in love with the fact that she loves it.

Just as an FYI - if you ever need to consider a Purina food without any chicken, there is the Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach (salmon) as well as several of the Purina Selects varieties without chicken.

Thanks..she's on lamb and rice right now and if it does have chicken it's a very small amount.
