i found fromm to be 1.2% calcium and 1% phos wich seems to be good. but i found out Innova large puppie breed have 0.9 % cal and .75 % phos ! lower is better ? or fromm is better ? what is the right % ! |

I have yet to find a definitive statement of what the correct percentage of calcium is, but the cal/phos ratio is crucial and should be around 1.2%:1% for cal
hos. In both examples you give--Fromm and Innova--the ratio of calcium to phosphorus is the same-- 1.2:1.I look to find a food that is between 1% and 2% calcium. Many of the better quality grain-free foods have higher calcium content--1.8% is not unusual. For a young puppy, you definitely want to stay lower than 2%; some people like to stay even closer to 1% calcium. This website gives some fairly clear info: Calcium & Phosphorous in Dogs* - Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Here's another link: http://onibasu.com/archives/kn/131885.html |
