I have switched to Chicken Soup for the dog lover's soul. This is the adult formula with the Golden Retriever on the bag. It is working well, and I think it is a good food (for not being grain free but whatever).
Well, my question is...how much of this should I feed a puppy? The calcium is 1.2% which seems acceptable, right? She weighs 28 lbs and is 3-4 mos. The bag says for that weight to feed 2 cups a day? This doesn't seem to cut it! I feed my 2 adult males 3.5 cups a day and this keeps them at a good weight. I'm feeding her a generous 3 cups everyday, with 3 meals split up over the day. She also gets a kong filled with PB and kibble at least once a day. She constantly acts hungry and is always on the prowl for food (she even is a turd burglar!) Is she just not getting enough or is she just being a dog? LOL sorry for all my n00b questions btw...when it comes to gsd pups I am a total noob! |

If Im not mistaken, Chicken soup, Diamond naturals, 4 health, kirkland are all made by the same company. Im currently on the adult version of diamond naturals for my 7 month old and on the feeding guide for a puppy your age and size, it says to feed 3-4 cups per day. Remember, they have a chart for adult dogs and a chart for puppies also. The adult chart does say 2 cups for a dog your size. But you really dont want to base it just off the chart. Look at your pup. Does she seem a little thin? A little too thick? That is what you base the food intake off of.
Puppies want to eat constantly... If I gave the whole bag to my pup, she would eat until she was sick. So yea, its normal behavior. |
