I just picked up my puppy today and I'm not sure what to feed him. I currently feed my 6 year old cocker spaniel Purina one healthy weight and feed Purina One sensitive formula to my cats.
I know that Purina one is not the best food, but I like it for my cats because my IBD cat does very well with it (only thing she did better with was Royal Canine urinary s/o). At a pet store today I was given some samples and I was looking for some opinions on the food that I was given. They gave me Premium Edge, Taste of the Wild, and Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's soul. I worry about the Premium Edge and Taste of the wild because they are duck and salmon, etc. The Chicken soup is Chicken and Turkey. I worry about the more novel proteins in case he does develop food allergies, I would like to have something to be able to switch him to. He was previously eating Puppy Chow. |

TOTW is a great food, but shouldn't be fed to large breed growing puppies because of the calcium content.
Orijen makes a great large breed puppy food, as does wellness and blue buffalo, and solid gold. Good luck!

Keep him on puppy chow for right now. They sell really small bags.
He just left his litter and is in a new world all by himself with people he doesn't know. That alone can mess up is system. Don't add a new food to the mix. There are a TON of food threads here. Feed the best you can afford. Watch the calcium level. Then transition to new food slowly |

I started Glock on Kirkland (from Costco) puppy food. That is what the breeder was feeding. I eventually switched to Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy food and he is doing AWESOME on it. Everyone comments on how soft and shiny his coat is. It is, in my area, about 50 bucks for a big bag. A bit pricey, but totally worth it in my opinion.

I just went from Wellness LBP to Innova adult (approved for all life-stages). My breeder uses Innova and while I like the Wellness, it may have been too rich for her as I don't recall the stool ever being very consistent.

Seven of my dogs eat Chicken Soup kibble (various formulas) and all are doing well. My German Shepherd eats Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach currently. He has inflammatory bowel disease and my seven other dogs do not.
