2011 Meet the Breeds!
American Kennel Club <--click that for info If you want to wander into the Jacob Javits Center on Saturday or Sunday I'll be there with GloryB!!!! Should be a fun time. Quote:
Agility – A dog's agility as it maneuvers an obstacle course is judged on many levels of time and accuracy. Events include ramps, dogwalks, teeter-totters, tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and more. Dogs are divided into groups based on size and experience to ensure fairness, although no distinction is made between breeds. Obedience – These events demonstrate the benefits of dogs as companions by displaying a dog's willingness to obey a variety of commands through a series of exercises. Commands can range from "sit" and "stay" to scent discrimination and the following of silent signals from the handler. Rally – A stepping-stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility, rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind. A rally course consists of 10 to 20 stations, with signs that indicate what skill the dog should perform, which includes sit, down, turn and recall. Meant as a fun and energizing experience, the canine team moves at their own pace and unlimited communication in encouraged. AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program – CGC is a certification program designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Test items include sitting politely for petting, walking on a loose lead, allowing brushing and handling and coming when called. S.T.A.R. Puppysm Program – A natural precursor to the CGC program, the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppysm Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class. Dog owners who complete a basic training class (taught by an AKC approved CGC evaluator) with their pup are eligible to enroll their dog in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program upon completion of the S.T.A.R. Puppy test. Test items include sit and down on command and walking on a leash. Owners learn to create an exercise plan and learn how to obtain identification for their pup, among other skills. Service Dogs – Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities’ (ECAD) mission is to educate and place dogs with people with disabilities so they will have greater independence and mobility. ECAD dogs are taught to respond to 80 commands and are able to do such things as retrieve items, open doors, activate light switches, pull wheelchairs, balance, brace, and perform other highly specialized skills. Additionally, they are capable of giving unconditional love and devotion to the person who needs them. Their demonstrations will show some of the many ways they help their person. These dogs love to please the audience and are good at it.

So where was everyone???
![]() Cause it was busy! Only got one picture of the GSD booth in the 'official' AKC site and I just happened to be working American Kennel Club Sunday pictures about 30 or so in.... There were a ton of cats too! Our booth won 1st place on Saturday for our group. But on Sunday either the Saluki's or Pharoh hound booth won. Since they all dressed up and had a huge tent and a fake fire and clearly worked hard too, I GUESS it's ok! But the people that did our set up did a huge amount of work too, showing up a day early. Hey, I made it with a dog a crate and a digital photo frame that showed video and pictures and was done with my setup! GloryB got to be there with her full littermate Ada (Galena) and they look SO much alike. Had a blast playing together and wanted our suite to be MUCH more vast so they could have done the run from the bed to the far wall with much more speed. One of the most amazing things was ALL FIVE dogs that we brought were SABLE! And 4 of the 5 were from German working lines, and only one from AKC showlines. So we were all able to show what sable looked like, and with 4 of the 5 dogs being the size the standard is written for (and heard alot of 'Why are your dogs so small? Are they just puppies? MY GSD used to be over 100 pounds!!!). Great chance to educate on the breed, different lines, how to find a RESPONSIBLE breeder, and go to shelters and rescues!! ![]()

I would have loved to go, unfortunately a trip to the city is like a trip to another country for me (I turned into a country bumpkin). Way too much hassle & traffic. Wished it was in the Nassua Coliseum.
