Default K-9 Karnival May 15 Virginia Beach

Just a reminder that the K-9 Karnival is coming up soon, here's a link for more info K-9 Karnival by Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation - Virginia Is For Lovers

The canine disc contest is always a lot of fun to watch. Our other GSD Klaus participated in it twice. He never won anything, but he was always a crowd favorite because most of the other dogs out there were border collie types.

The VB Police usually put on a K9 demo. I love watching those dogs in action. Last year, they actually had a cruiser drive onto the field, and the dog leaped out from it to take down a "criminal." Very exciting.

Last year, it was so cute: one lady selling home baked doggie treats set up a little cafe. She had doggie height tables with cloths & flowers and when Tora walked up, the lady rang a little bell, said "table for one" and served her treats on a little plate.

Anyway, we've been coming to this event for years because they have a lot of silly contests and activities all day long and a variety of vendors and rescue organizations represented.

We will be there, thinking of bringing both pooches... but won't stay for the whole event. Coming straight after Schutzhund, and then staying an hour or two... Online site said they are projecting 4000 in attendence this year

This was such a bust... I used to go years ago and it was super fun.. but they had NOTHING...

overpriced NOT fresh like they say lemonade, 6 dollar chewy funnel cakes, rescues, and... at least an hour of 95 degree heat between each little 5 minute demo or contest... not even water bowls.... the dock dogs had this beat by a mile, and now I know why when I showed up within the first hour, so many people were already waiting to get out... guess we will hope Bark in the Park is better

My husband said the same thing, VBFam, this year's Karnival was a disappointment. No K9 demo, and the frisbee contest didn't even start until 3:30. Hardly any vendors. Lousy lemonade. But the fries were good!

I've got pictures that I'll try to post tonight.

Did you all make it out there? We did see a lot of German Shepherds, one family came out with three, and another large one was competing in the frisbee contest, but we left before that started. We did see a white shepherd that was 8 yrs old, but his owner said he was a White American Shepherd.

Hey Trina, that family with three was me . My brother had two Brock and Rambo, I had Zuko. It was my first K9-Carnival so I had a good time with nothing to compare it to. Although, I would have liked to have seen some K-9 agility demos or better yet, some police k-9 stuff. It was good to have the dogs meet so many other dogs though.

Oh okay! Small world, eh? I'm glad you all had a good time. It wasn't that we had a bad time just that we were expecting more based on previous years.

Not sure if there are any doggie events coming up this summer. Suffolk's Mutt Strutt is in September, and Chesapeake's Bark in the Park isn't until October.

(still haven't uploaded my pictures yet!)
