Default German Shepherd Day at Petco in Batavia NY!

Hi everyone I'd like to start by saying I am the dog trainer and a grooming asst. at the Petco in Batavia NY. I am organizing a GSD Day and I'd like to get alot of people and dogs to come! The date is very tentatively set for April 24 which is a Sat and it will be in the afternoon. The day will include prizes to be given out for lots of different categories such as oldest GSD biggest, best trick, etc. I'll be giving a grooming demonstration and training demonstration also. If anyone is interested please let me know and I will post as I know more about the date and time.
Also if anyone out there is from Brightstar or any other Shepherd rescues I have some space available for rescues to come in and set up tables so please contact me I am excited about this and would also welcome any ideas anyone might have to make it a great day!

Wonder if you could post in the Rescue Forum about inviting any locals to your event? You may hit the 'rescue' people better by posting in there!

Great that you thought to include the rescues when promoting the breed!

Advertise advertise advertise....if there is one thing a lot of the local petco's don't do well here, it's advertise. I think they are heads and tails better than petsmart (in my location anyway), but the difference is petsmart advertises so much more when they have special events going on.

How about door prizes? Everyone loves door prizes and it's an equal chance of winning for all involved, rather than categories to "enter." Your average customer base isn't going to have dogs that know much more beyond "shake" and "roll over" and many of them aren't going to be that old or that young. Door prizes or random drawings would be much better IMHO. Give away GSD appropriate toys (kongs, nylabones, etc)

How about free or at least half price nail trims? Enter a raffle for a dollar and get a chance to win a free bath. Make sure to explain what a force dryer does to a shepherd coat and how much it helps with shedding by blowing out all the loose undercoat. I drive my dogs 20 minutes to a petco in a neighboring city to use their do it yourself bath service, even though there are three other dog wash places much closer to me. One less than a 5 minute drive! All because the other places have crappy dryers or don't have the added nozzle on the end of the good ones, thereby forcing the air through better.

Make sure to set up a furminater table where people can actually TRY ONE OUT. People tend to not believe what they can not see or try themselves.

How about a raffle to win a training class (the full 6 or 8 week session, however long yours is).

Just some ideas. I wish ours would do something like this. It would be so much fun and there are a ton of GSDs in the area.

Rerun, great suggestions.

And Petco will sell a TON of furminators if you have a table to try them out~!

I agree 100%! When someone has the abillity to try out a product, you'd be surprised how many will then go buy it. Too bad Petco couldn't put them on "sale" for that day. Then I know you'd really unload them between folks being able to "test" them and then see that they are on sale, even if only 10% off.

Word of warning though....if you do put out some test furminators, you might want to chain them to the table. I suspect a few might "grow feet" and walk out of the store.
