Default HS Black Stainless Steel

Hi, I have been thinking of ordering my dogs some black SS fursavers for awhile, but have been putting it off because I don't know anyone that has them so I have no idea how the finish holds up.

So, I am here to ask some opinions. I know that it says that the finish is embedded into the metal, but I just want to make sure that it lasts a decent amount of time under normal use. When the descriptions says collar may take on an "antique-look", does that mean finish chipping or just the colour fading?

Also, a friend of mine is looking into a black prong. What have been your experience with these? Has the finish lasted even on the martingale chain and on the prong that you are always opening and closing?

Thanks for any help.

I have had a black finish neck tech from HS... ~2 years in and not a single worn spot. Used regularly. The antique look means its not (and don't think it ever was) purely jet black. Its hard to explain. That being said, several years and it has not changed appearance, if it did its too subtle to notice. Also, I live on the coast and HS stainless collars are the only thing I've come across that take salt water all the time without rusting.

I just bought a black HS fur saver and prong a couple of months ago, so haven't had a lot of hard use yet, but I don't see a single scratch yet!!

My only problem is I wish the prong came with smaller size links. My dog has an 18" neck and I find the smaller links better for sizing it for her.

Thanks for the answers. Think I will go ahead and order them. Just thought I'd ask for some feedback before dropping almost 70$ on two lengths of chain, lol.

Funny this was mentioned. Although I don't have a dog anymore I went ahead and bought a couple of prongs including the HS black finished one. It just arrived today so I have no idea how it will hold up.

The one thing I also wish is that it came in the 2.25mm size like my other prongs.

Some of the closeups of the prong (have had it maybe 9 months, daily use). You can see some parts look a little scratchy when you hold it up in the sun, almost like a darker grey that's not quite 'black'..a little bit of it is the collar being dirty, but in some spots its changed color. It's not like a stainless steel color under it, still quite dark.

The fursaver is kind of hard to see sorry, she's wearing it. That one is quite new. It seems darker than the prong to me. So far only one spot has a tiny bit of that dark grey showing, but the black holds up really well on spots that don't have a lot of friction

edit my pics showed up really small

Thank you very much for taking the time to post some pics, Mego. Seeing real life pics rather than stock photos really helps to get a better "feel" of the finish. I think I now know what hunterisgreat meant by that it is not purely jet black. Thanks!

I ordered my black prong from here and it's held up very well over almost 1 yr of use,

Herm Sprenger Stainless Steel 3.25mm Prong Collar Black

I love the color and how when he wears it you can hardly see it in his darker fur.
