New Tug advice
I am looking for a new tug for my 5 month old (will not be using for about another month after new teeth are fully grown). Just hoping to get some thoughts on size, material, and where to get it.
I get my tugs from Leerburg. I also get a variety from soft to hard. I would say get a leather, fire hose, jute and a couple fleece tugs.
I like 10 to 15 inch tugs. Michael Ellis recommends no handles on new dogs, because it makes targeting easier and teaching the out by making the tug dead easier. I agree with this.
I probably have 15 tugs in rotation, maybe more. I'm not saying you need that many, especially for 1 dog. I do like to vary tugs so the dog gets used to biting a variety of textures. I also switch tugs to stiffer material as the dog fights harder.
Take care of your tugs and they will last.
The French linen ones are nice too.
I was about to start a thread just like this. Very helpful. Thanks. I read that Ellis recommends a small tug so that you can take it with places, hide it on your person, etc.
Diane, given the above advice, which do you think would be a good tug for my new puppy (coming mid April).
