plastic kennel
anybody ever see or use a rough tough kennels?
i'd really like to try a plastic crate this time around instead of another wire kennel. i'm hoping the plastic kennel will feel more secure since it's not as "open." Petmate Plastic Carriers vs Rough Tough Kennels. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. AR |
I don't know about the other brands, but I use petmate for Grim. He was flown to me in one, and took to it so well that I wanted to stick with it. I've always used wire crates before. I got him a very large Veri-kennel for in the house, and just got him a smaller one for in the van for travel to class/club. He really likes them. He's not tried to break out of one, so I can't tell you how well it would work to keep a determined dog in. However, my previous male destroyed a few wire crates later in life.... so I don't count those as being overly strong.

Thanks for the info Jag. I'm coming off a wire crate previously which got pretty beat up. I'll take a closer look at the petmate.
How big is Grim and what size kennel did you get for the house? XL? |
If you get one I would love to hear. They are kind of small for everyday use and when I got my aluminum boxes were not available in the larger size. They look awful tough compared to a standard plastic kennel.

Oh wow, you're right.. I thought they had an even bigger kennel then their large. You're right about that being too small for every day use. I guess it's going to be something from the Petmate line.
PS. Which aluminum kennel did you get? |

Robert, I got the Owens 55033. At 38x24 it is small for daily use but fine for us for transport. .. but it is about as cheap as you can go for a welded aluminum dog box. I am quite pleased with it. I think the biggest rough tough is 35x22 which is still a bit smallish.

They offer an XLG (22w X 30t X 40d) kennel now. RTK said it's very expensive to ship since it's over sized. $249.95+ shipping.
Still seems small for everyday use. Back to the drawing board. |
