"Bite Work" Collar-Wear Regularly?

I just got a padded, leather collar for bite work, and I was wondering if it would be ok if Varick wore it all the time. I was going to get him a leather collar for christmas anyway, but if I already have one, why not use it? If not, is it because I want him to expect bite work when he wears the collar? Or what?

That may wear his coat down. Not something I'd want to leave on(but I like my dogs naked!)
When I put a training collar on my dog, I let him know what we are doing, the collar tells him as well...fursaver is usually the tracking collar and the prong is obedience. A harness or agitation collar is for protection(prong as well).
I would use a rolled leather collar if you want to leave one on him, it'll be easier on the coat.
I've seen pics of dogs wearing 2" collars as the 'daily dress' and it just looks odd and uncomfortable. I don't think I'd want to leave a fursaver on either, too many spots that can get caught up.

What about a regular 1" leather collar? I want it in either brown or burgandy....Do you know any places/websites that sell them?

A dog can wear a collar if does not hurt, scare , etc for most of the time. I do not wear and tear on a dog, but know what to use for training and wear. hope that helps.

If it's just a standard leather 1" collar where the D ring is ahead of the buckle, the dog can wear it like a normal collar. I have one of these I occasionally use for protection and also use as a normal collar. Nikon doesn't normally wear a collar at home but he does if I have a dog sitter or if we're on vacation and often it's this collar. No, the dog should not be cued to bitework based on equipment, he would know it's bitework because of how the helper is working him.

The older dog usually knows it's bitework because it comes after obedience in the training day scenario...no collar cue necessary. I've seen dogs(mine!) come out for a second round of obedience and be in the protection phase because that is what they are use to, I like to change up that routine just to keep the dog guessing.

A pup on the other hand, knows when the harness is put on...exciting times ahead and ramp up at the sight of it.

Plus for bitework you will want a lot of tools in the toolbox, so to speak, and you don't want the dog going into protection mode over a collar. I use a Fursaver, prong collar, harness, or flat collar (like pictured) for bitework....but also use all these collars in many other contexts (Fursaver for tracking and conformation, prong for obedience, harness for flyball, flat collar for normal walks or visiting public places).

For every day use I would get a good round leather. I have found they don't tear up the coats as badly.

How wide is that collar? You want at least a 2" wide collar for bitework.

The collar I use for bite work is 2" wide.
Would this collar be okay?
