Heated dog bed

Anyone ever try a heated dog bed? Since there is no heat in my sunroom I want to do something before the temps dip below 40. I know I am not going to convince my husband on any type of electric heater specially when we are not home, but I might be able to sell him on this Comfort Ease Large Heated Pet Bed - 1102181, Dog Beds at Sportsman's Guide
Any thoughts?

My friend has a samoyed who lives outside most of the year (inside in the A/C in the summer LOL) She has something similar for him in his outdoor pen.

He doesn't use it very often, but she's never had any problems with it, and it gives her peace of mind while she's at work!

The 2 older dogs always lay on snow or ice so I don't think the cold bothers them, but the little princess would probably love this. I think it's more for my piece of mind too!

I always want to bring Kyleigh in after 10 minutes of being in the backyard ... but she's fine!!! Last night I went out to get her, she'd been out for about 15 minutes and I caught her doing "snow angels" on the patio stones ... just had to get that last rolling in the snow before bed time!

As for my friend's Samoyed, I actually cracked up laughing when she told me she'd bought it ... really? He's got A LOT of fur LOL

I was just trying to come up with plans to build a heated/cooled dog bed. I was going to use thermoelectric couplers and fluid circulation to accomplish it, probably with an aluminum plate with something soft ontop of it... trying to think of something soft that can tolerate dog claws while still transmitting heat efficiently.

Thats what I am concerned about with Lakota, she has to "fluff" her bed sometimes she tends to over do it.

Not sure if this is true or a good idea....

I have heard with outside dogs it's best not to add heat to their bedding (of course they should have shelter & protection from the elements). If they are truely an outside dog you want their coat to adjust, it will become thicker & more dense. My dad's old hunting dogs were like this.

It sounds like in this case the dog spends some time in a non heated area in the house, the above would not apply.

Only while I am at work, hubby used to get home much earlier than me so it was never an issue. Now the dogs are in from 8-5:30 and I personally think 9.5 hours is way too long specially for my older girl to have to hold it.

I like that the bed only activates when the dog lays on it, and a good option for dogs that are not destructive chewers.

Seems like a good solution
