Default any recommendations for a good ex pen?

we are thinking of buying an ex pen for chobahn to stay in during the day. he gets destructive when left alone sometimes while we are at work and i don't want to restrict him to his cage. we are planning to move it to the basement because there is plenty of space and rubber matting. i'm interested in this one because it seems sturdy. any thoughts?
Amazon Amazon

thanks in advance!

I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. I have one Leerburg sales, and Immo about 3 months old learned to climb out and launch him out of it, after catching him 2-3 times, we decided to stop using it because we were afraid of him hurting himself if we didn't catch him climbing out of it.

This is for a full-sized adult dog?

I'd probably look at a small kennel set up that gives a space that is maybe 5x10 feet (or bigger if you have the room).

At 40", your dog could pretty much jump over it from a standstill, if he wanted.

yeah i was concerned it probably wouldn't be high enough...i'm suuuuure he would figure out that he could spring himself from it. a kennel might be better, you're right.

I use a Midwest black-coated x-pen. I used it when we first got Bianca before I knew if she could be trusted in the house alone. Now I just use it when we go on trips. The one I have is actually only 24" tall but Bianca never tries to jump out of it even though she's 26" at the shoulder! I originally got it for my Golden who was 24" and was older and unable to jump, but it's worked fine for Bianca too.

Midwest makes them up to 48" tall and if your dog likes to jump out you can also buy a metal top for it. The only downside to the metal top is that it can only be used when the x-pen is in a square configuration.

thank you for the suggestion...i've been browsing around and have seen a few different options including the 48" tall one. he's never been a jumper, but i can't say he wouldn't do it when left alone to his own devices. the kennels are obviously more expensive than the ex pens, but it just might be worth it.

my boy is 29" and would paw up on a 36" x pen. He was alone in an x pen when we went out until he was 4 months old and never had a problem, but not after that as he got bigger.

I would use a kennel with an adult dog that can be destructive if left alone. The x pens move along the ground in houses because they are not anchored and they bend/sway enough for him to get out even if it were a 48 incher. After my boy was 4 months old I only used the x pen when I was home.

you're totally right. and knowing my dog, he would bust out of it somehow. on the plus side, since i started this thread no damage has been done. isn't it ironic? he always sits on the couch next to me when i'm on the laptop. perhaps he has learned how to read with out me knowing

just kidding of course.
