Default Dog Backpacks???

I have read that putting a backpack on your dog and having it carry a few things on walks and stuff give it a sense of doing a job.

Does anyone do this?

I did it with my golden retriever last summer. We carried water bottles in it for us I just got tired of people asking if we were training her to be a service dog - or asking if she was a service dog.

sorry, I am new. I forgot the "search" button is your friend on these types of forums.

There is a good deal of discussion here on this topic already.

There is indeed. And don't feel bad, the subject comes up every couple of weeks.

I'm going to have Kopper start carrying a backpack with our waters and snacks when we go hiking once he stops growing. I don't know or care if it will give him a sense of fulfillment, I'm just tired of carrying the water.

when it comes to giving a dog a job i think
the owner sees whatever it is as a job more so than the dog.
is it your dogs job to jump on the bed with when you ask, is it your dogs job to sit when you ask, is it your dogs job to carry something for you,
is it your dogs job to bark or not to bark, is it your dogs job to
lay around the house all day? what's a job to a dog???

i bet he'll carry the pack because he's trained to do it.
i doubt he thinks of it as a job. it's just one more thing
he knows how to do.

make sure you find out the proper amount weight
a dog/your dog can carry.

Yup, my favorite pack so far is the singletrak from Ruffwear.

I have had MANY packs and this is by far my favorite!
