They make leashes with flashlight built on them.
Don't know how well they work, though.

I've been walking at 5 a.m. for 15 years. We just use the cheapo generic type that uses 2 C-cell batteries. Works fine. Anything more than that is nice but not necessary unless you have special conditions.

I like a good head-lamp that are made for hunters. Get a good one and it won't burn thru the batteries. When Minka was young I used the light in combination with a reflective harness to keep track of her. I tried those collar lights and they lasted for maybe 2 - 3 weeks tops and we walk every morning no matter how dark so that wasn't going to cut it. Glow-in-the-dark balls work for playing in the dark too!

I have the stinger police flashlight. It's small but has the same power as the huge police light.

My boss gave me a Inova Led flashlight. It's great, about nine inches long, lightweight and has three light settings.
High, Med, Low, and a strobe...very cool.

It came with a wall charger and a car charger. It's the best birthday gift I've received. (yep, I'm a dork....the poop station set up was pretty cool too. Darn, I'm a geek)
