Default What are tabs for?

I was browsing online for some equipment and came across these:

Dog Tabs l Signature K9

Can anyone tell me what they're for and how to use them? Just curious.

I used them when I was teaching Rocky his off-leash heeling. It gave him the feeling of being off-leash but there was still something to grab on to if I needed it. These days I spit hot dogs.

They are handles. At least that is how I use them, if I am working off lead with a dog, and I see someone come up, and I want them to feel comfortable (dog is under control) I will hold onto the tab. It is kind of like a leash with a handle and a clasp and nothing else.

Mostly during agility training. If you have a tall dog, you can leave the tab on his collar and have a "handle" to hold between practices. Easier than putting on and taking off the leash throughout class.

In protection training you might have a prong on the dog with a tab and an agitation collar or a harness with a regular leash. The dog can pull against the harness that you have on a regular leash to bark and try to get to the decoy without interference from the prong collar. And if you need to control the dog, you can quickly take hold of the tab and give a correction if needed.

I use a tab on the prong and run another line on the flat collar for walking(also use as Lucia described when we do protection) If I need to use the prong, then I grab the tab.
My tab is just a short 8" gripper line with a knot at the end, no handle.

Very handy I use it with a long line hiking. Much easier on your hands to hold onto a leather tab than a nylon line. I use it when we pass people with dogs.
